Environment Canada issued severe thunderstorm warnings and watches across most of central Saskatchewan late Saturday afternoon.
At 3:45 p.m., meteorologists began tracking a cluster of severe thunderstorms near Radisson and Aberdeen, which are expected to impact the Saskatoon area.
According to Environment Canada, these storms could produce very strong wind gusts, toonie to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain.
If threatening weather approaches, the weather agency urges people to take cover immediately as large hail can cause injury and damage property. The strong wind gusts can also toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
There is also the possibility severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes.
A severe thunderstorm warning is issued when there’s potential for large hail, damaging winds or torrential rainfall, due to an imminent or occurring thunderstorm.
