SaskEnergy crews began going door-to-door Wednesday afternoon following a gas line rupture in the area around Melfort.
As of shortly after noon Wednesday, the company was still working to repair a broken transmission line between Weldon and Birch Hills that had ruptured earlier in the day.
A SaskEnergy spokesperson explained that the broken line required the company to supply Melfort, St. Brieux, Kinisto and the surrounding area from alternate sources.
The switch to other lines led to a drop in pressure, which caused about 4,500 customers to lose service.
With gas flowing again, the company moved some 40 technicians into the area to go to affected homes and help relight and restart people’s natural gas appliances.
The company did not anticipate any further disruption once service from the main line was restored.
SaskEnergy has tips on what to do during a natural gas outage, and contact information for those needing further assistance available on its website.
