After an 18-year break from sculpting a Saskatoon area artist made a big impression with Blue Bear–a bronze set to be displayed at the Wyland Gallery at the Disney World resort in Florida.
Denyse Klette, an artist for the last 36 years, told 650 CKOM she had focused on painting ever since she finished a short stint sculpting the classic Winnie the Pooh characters almost two decades ago.
She only tried sculpting again after meeting an Ottawa artist who helped get her started on what would become Blue Bear last June at her acreage near Saskatoon.
“Instead of doing something small, I actually did a master sculpt it was 37 by 38 inches high, and that was the start of Blue Bear,” Klette said.
Once finished, the sculpture was shown to the owner of Wyland Galleries in Florida.
“He immediately loved it and said yes to showing it in his galleries,” said Klette.
It was decided Blue Bear would go on display at the galleries Disney World location where it’s scheduled to be unveiled Boxing Day.
Klette will be busy over the next few months the gallery has asked for five more bronze pieces for the spring.
