Our friend, Murray McCormick of the Regina Leader-Post, summed it up best.
After James Franklin was moved from Edmonton to Toronto, McCormick tweeted, “the first qb domino falls.”
Not many saw that move coming. Franklin was thought to be on his way to the Roughriders.
However, there are few secrets among CFL General Managers.
Franklin’s talent level is obvious, and Argos GM Jim Popp feels bringing Franklin to the defending Grey Cup champions will add depth down the road. Ricky Ray won’t play for ever.
As of Monday, the list of free agent quarterbacks included Brandon Bridge, Jeremiah Masoli, Trevor Harris and even Travis Lulay.
In my opinion, just three of the nine CFL teams have their quarterback situation solidified for 2018 – Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg.
A case could be made that every other team will want to try to make a change for the better. It may make for the most interesting CFL off-season in a long time.
