Don’t get your hopes up, Toronto Blue Jays fans.
Canada’s only MLB team is 3.5 games out of a wild-card playoff berth and there are some blue-clad optimists believing their team may qualify for the postseason. Not a chance.
Heading into Tuesday’s games, the Jays were last in their division. They were four games below .500. And here’s the real stumbling block: There are six teams between the Jays and that wild-card berth. If the Jays had to leap only one team, they might make their third straight playoff appearance.
So it’s not just having to win at least 25 of their 44 remaining games, the Twins, Royals, Orioles, Mariners, Rays and Rangers would have to lose at least that many of their remaining games.
