Cars lined for blocks, the smell of grilled burgers and a lot of odds and ends for sale.
Those will be some of the sights at the Montgomery neighbourhood garage sale on Saturday.
The garage sale has become something of a legend in Saskatoon after starting years ago as a small community event.
“We’ve kind of become famous for having this sale,” said Barb Biddle, President of the Montgomery Place Community Association.
She added word of mouth has spread, with people coming from other neighbourhoods and towns to check out the food and wares.
“It’s the unofficial kick-off to garage sale season,” Biddle said.
However, fame comes unwanted groups taking advantage of the success.
“We have a lot of commercial groups that want to come in here and we want to discourage that because this is a community event,” she said.
“Last year, I saw several food trucks and even someone set up with a bunch of clothing racks on a boulevard.”
On top of the garage sale, Saskatoon groups like the Scouts have barbeque fundraisers selling hamburgers and hot dogs.
Biddle encourages people to park away from the Montgomery neighbourhood to avoid congestion.
The official sale runs Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but some residents already had tables set up Thursday with some planning to sell until Sunday.
