Regina police have been keeping a close eye on people using their cellphone while driving.
In March, officers issued 138 cellphone tickets – thanks in part to a new enforcement effort.
Operation Bus Cop deploys a police officer onboard city transit to monitor drivers in cars during peak times. A seat on the bus gives police an excellent vantage point to see whether drivers are focusing the road or turning their attention elsewhere, like their cell phones.
The bus cop project took place on nine days throughout March. In total, 34 cell phone tickets were handed out, along with 35 other infraction tickets, including seatbelt use and speeding.
The operation will continue throughout the year.
