A crash near Melfort has claimed the life of a young man.
Melfort RCMP responded Tuesday afternoon to a collision between a pickup truck and a semi truck at 44 Trail and Melinda Road, a grid road intersection south of the city.
In a release issued Wednesday morning, police said the 18-year-old was driving the pickup truck south on Melinda Road and that the semi was traveling east on 44 Trail when the collision occurred.
The 18-year-old was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
The 38-year-old driver of the semi truck was also taken to hospital as a precaution. Police had no further information on his condition.
A family member told 650 CKOM that the young man who died was a Grade 12 student at Melfort Unit and Comprehensive Collegiate and was on his way home before the crash.
RCMP said they are continuing to investigate, as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, they had no further information on what caused the crash.
