It’s official – Jay and Dan are coming home.
TSN announced the return of sports anchors Jay Onrait and Dan O’Toole Wednesday, coinciding with the NHL trade deadline.
“The biggest acquisition of #TradeCentre so far,” TSN tweeted, along with a photo of the duo stamped with the word “reacquired.”
“We are so happy we don’t have to field fan mail begging us to come back to Canada,” joked O’Toole in an interview with 650 CKOM. “We get to come home and it’s a surreal feeling.”
The Canadian sportscasters spent the last four years with Fox Sports Live in Los Angeles. The show was cancelled last week and contracts for the pair were not renewed.
Onrait joined TSN in 1996 as an editorial assistant before moving to broadcast jobs in Saskatoon and Winnipeg. He then joined NHL Network in 2001 and moved to TSN in 2002.
O’Toole began with TSN in 2003 after working previously as a news anchor in Vancouver.
“The two biggest compliments we ever got were wives telling us you ‘I never liked sports until I watched you guys,” O’Toole said. “The other was families thanking us for waking them up every morning.”
The pair will Host SC with Jay and Dan during the morning run on TSN starting in September.
