More and more vehicle thefts are as a result of leaving keys in vehicles.
Around 60 to 70 per cent of vehicles reported stolen in Saskatoon have had their keys left inside.
“I don’t want to victim blame at all, but I want people to change their behaviour,” said Saskatoon Police Staff Sergeant AJ Chevli.
“We aren’t going to take $60,000, put it in an envelope and then leave it on the sidewalk, but that’s what you do when you leave your keys in your vehicle.”
Chevli said the city has one of the highest rates of vehicle thefts in Canada according to police in other provinces.
