A man and a woman are in custody as police investigate an alleged hit-and-run which killed a five-year-old boy.
Big River RCMP responded to a call of a pedestrian hit-and-run on Highway 55 around 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 16. Paramedics transported the boy to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In a press release, police said an initial investigation showed the boy was riding a bicycle at the time he was struck by a vehicle. Police said the driver did not stop and the vehicle was located later at a business in Big River. Both the driver and a passenger were taken into custody.
Police reported shortly before noon Wednesday that they hadn’t laid charges.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist and Big River RCMP are continuing to work in the area.
*An earlier draft of this story listed the deceased boy as 2 years old. RCMP have issued a correction saying the boy was 5.
