Parts of south central Saskatchewan got hammered with hail, wind, and even a tornado on Tuesday night.
Areas like Outlook, Moose Jaw, and Fort Qu’Appelle were under tornado warnings for a little over an hour starting at 8:20 p.m.
A tornado was spotted west of Davidson around that time. Ricky Forbes, a storm chaser with CMT’s Tornado Chaser, saw it touch down.
“It was pretty skinny at first then it started to widen out more into what we call a cone tornado, but it wasn’t on the ground too long,” said Forbes.
He spoke to News Talk Radio shortly after seeing the tornado, and will still following the storm along grid roads.
“There’s lots of dangerous hail, rain, and lightning inside the storm, and there’s potential for it to touch down again.”
Though he said the tornado was on the smaller side, he still called it intense.
“Even small tornadoes can be very dangerous. It’s tough, unless you’re very close, to know how fast these wind speeds are, and that’s the danger is the wind speeds of these tornadoes. I can’t tell you for certain how much damage it could have done, I did see it touch ground, I did see dirt fly up.”
Tuesday night there was no word how much damage, if any, the tornado caused.
Besides the tornado there were also places that got hit with hail, in some cases gigantic hail. On social media there were photos posted of some the size or golf balls and baseballs near Outlook, and a few in the area the size of softballs as well.
