Amanda and Shaun Diehl weren’t expecting to have a New Year’s baby, but their little boy just couldn’t wait another week.
Jaxson John Diehl was born at 1:29 a.m. Jan. 1 at Royal University Hospital, nine days earlier than expected
“We joked about having the New Year’s baby. Didn’t actually think it would happen,” mother Amanda said. “A wonderful way to bring in the New Year.”
The couple were at a friend’s house in Warman to ring in the New Year, but had rush to the hospital around 11:30 p.m. when Amanda went into labour. They were driving when the clock struck midnight.
“I looked at him, kind of in pain, I’m like ‘Happy New Years honey. Hurry up. Get to the hospital,” Amanda said.
Named after Sons of Anarchy character Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller, and Amanda’s father John, Jaxson weighed six pounds and came out healthy. He’s the pair’s first child together.
Amanda and Shaun are both teachers with the Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools and expect lots of family visits over the next few days. Amanda expects her sports fanatic family to turn Jaxson into an Oilers fan.
