Severe lightning grounded all flights in Calgary this morning and that’s creating a ripple effect in Saskatchewan
The lightning advisory was eventually lifted at 11:30 a.m. and crews are scrambling to put the planes in the air and get back on schedule.
In Regina and Saskatoon, that affected almost every flight arriving from or departing to Calgary (YYC). Two flights out of Saskatoon (YXE) and one leaving Regina (YQR) were cancelled.
The lightning shutdown also caused many other flights to be delayed by hours. WestJet flight 315 to Calgary leaving Regina at 1:55 p.m. was pushed back to 5:18 p.m.
These delays are also impacting Air Canada and WestJet flights to Vancouver out of YQR. Departures are delayed as late as midnight in Saskatoon.
Check your flight status before heading to the Regina International Airport and Saskatoon International Airport.
